The inclusion of Bulgarians in the Macedonian Constitution is the easiest condition of the framework for negotiations with the EU, the BGNES reports. According to the Bulgarian news portal, a key place in the protocols resulting from the 2017 Good Neighborliness Treaty is occupied by the work of the historical commission and the modification of textbooks that should follow from that process.
“After more than five years of operation, everyone is aware that the Joint Historical Commission has done almost nothing, especially in relation to really controversial historical topics,” the article reads:
“The reason for this is the refusal of the Macedonian part of the commission to negotiate on important historical topics or to change the narratives inherited from the time of Tito’s Yugoslavia, and sometimes with direct provocations towards the Bulgarian side. It is enough to recall the proposal given in 2019 by the Macedonian side for a common date of celebration for Goce Delchev to be chosen the day on which communist Bulgaria handed over his bones to communist Yugoslavia in 1946,” BGNES reported.
