The municipality of Tetovo removed the ecological tree donated by Germany through the ecological association “Eco Awareness” and with donations from Macedonian companies, because instead of maintaining it, the city authorities allowed it to dry out. The tree cost 25,000 euros, but it was left withered for years and had no effect on improving air pollution, which was its primary goal. The public relations service of the Municipality of Tetovo announced that the tree was removed because “the previous government dried it up carelessly”.
Such an eco billboard, or an eco tree, was also placed in Skopje, but it also dried up soon after.
