OLAF opens 18 investigations into EU funds abuses in N. Macedonia between 2017 and 2022

Out of 36 he European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF)  investigations into the misuse of EU funds given to the countries of the Western Balkans, as many as 18 refer to the funds granted to N. Macedonia.

The investigations refer to the period between 2017 and 2022 and recommendations have been made for the beneficiary country to return the misused funds.

For recorded abuses to the relevant authorities in the country, the cases are handed over to open criminal investigations.

If investigations of the OLAF result in suspicions of criminal activities, those cases will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) to undertake further measures.
