Ferid Murad, a Nobel laureate from Macedonia, died at the age of 87. He was born in the USA, but his father was from Lakavica, Gostivar.
His studies were focused on the effect of nitroglycerin on the human body, which he worked on for years along with Robert Furchgott and Louis Ignarro. The three jointly receive the Nobel Prize in 1998.
Five years ago, Murad visited Gostivar for the third time after coming to his father’s hometown for the first time two decades ago and meeting his close relatives.
