After the British Guardian announced that the citizens of Macedonia breathe the most toxic air in all of Europe, the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Kaja Shukova told RFE/RL that she would not agree with this finding, but she does not shy away from the fact that the country is really facing a problem with air pollution.
Shukova stated that it is ungrateful to say that the problem of air pollution can be solved in the short term. Strategies, long-term solutions, but also action are needed. According to world practices, it has been determined that it takes ten to 20 years to solve air pollution, especially for big cities.
“I hope that, among other things, public awareness has risen a little among citizens, so they don’t use non-ecological materials to warm themselves,” said Shukova.
