For the first time, a brain surgery was performed on an awake patient at the Neurosurgery Clinic. During the intervention, the 42-year-old woman from Bitola was conscious and talked to the anesthesiologist.
The operation was performed by a team of neurosurgeons led by Venko Filipche together with surgeons Rendevski and Zhupanovski and a team of junior doctors and medical staff.
Filipche says that a conscious patient during surgery is possible and very useful because while the tumor is being removed, there is communication with the woman in order not to injure the nerves of the organs that are near the tumor.
