The leaders of the countries of the Western Balkans, at the meeting on the Growth Plan for the region held yesterday in Skopje, adopted a joint statement, with which they committed themselves to the development of the six countries according to European standards and emphasized the great importance of cooperation in the region, as a strategic alliance of the countries of the region to achieve a common goal – joining the EU.
Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski at the joint press conference with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia James O’Brien after the meeting of the leaders, emphasized that the Growth Plan is the most serious political confirmation from the EU so far that they have a concrete plan for efficient European integration in the Western Balkans.
“In these key moments for the progress of the region, and above all for Macedonia’s European future, the EU and the USA sent a clear message from here, from Skopje, for the support of the efficient integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. At the same time, they also sent a message that in that process, they are counting on the pro-European state leadership,” Kovachevski said.
