Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski Sunday morning laid flowers on the grave of the Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delchev in the courtyard of the “St. Spas” church in Skopje.

Pendarovski paid his respects to Delchev on the 152nd anniversary of the revolutionary’s birth.

A delegation of the caretaker government, led by the First Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj, including the Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Bekim Rexhepi, also laid flowers at the eternal resting place of Goce Delchev.

A Parliament delegation led by Vice-Speaker Goran Misovski, also including MPs Marija Georgievska and Velika Stojkova-Serafimovska, also paid respects.

Former PM and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski, the head of MOC-OA, HH Stefan, representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of several political parties and civil associations.

The anniversary began with a memorial service officiated by HH Stefan in the presence of several priests of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archdiocese.

“Goce’s memory lives on and the love for him is not diminishing. We should not only think how proud we are of Goce, but how proud he is of us. Goce and many of his fellow fighters gave their lives for the freedom of their homeland, whereas our love to the motherland is confirmed by deeds. It is high time we see Macedonia not only as geography but as a biblical country with a sacred name,” said HH Stefan.
