External debt reaches record 32.6 percent of GDP

The regular statistical announcement on the most significant changes in external debt, external claims and the international investment position has been published, the National Bank of Macedonia said over the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.

On 31.12.2023, the net external debt amounts to 4,458 million euros (or 32.6% of the estimated GDP). The net external debt of the country, in the fourth quarter of 2023, has increased by 305 million euros, or by 7.3%. In terms of structure, private net debt continues to have a larger share in total net debt with 67%.
