In the organization of the Union of Associations of Macedonians and refugee children from the Aegean part of Macedonia “MACEDON”, on Saturday, April 20, in front of the Monument to the Refugee Children opposite the Parliament, the 75th anniversary of the end of the Civil War in Greece and the 76th commemoration of the exodus of the Macedonians from the Aegean part of Macedonia.

“The fate of the Macedonian refugee children from the Civil War in the Kingdom of Greece, unfortunately, is still a topic that is put under the carpet, not only by politics, but also by science, which deals a lot with refugee issues, but the tragedy of the refugee children somehow has been neglected… Their tragic fate was outlined, and unfortunately it turned out to be cemented by the agreement between the Provisional Democratic Government of Greece and the Eastern European countries (March-April 1948), after which over 30,000 Macedonian children were evacuated to Yugoslavia, on the territory in the Republic of Macedonia, then in Romania, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary and East Germany. But unfortunately, this exodus did not stop there. Some of the children, who later came to Macedonia, went to other continents, where they continued their life’s journey, and some of them became recognized members of the societies in their new home or homeland, such as the world-renowned historian Andrew Rossos, who with his scientific opus affirms the Macedonian past,” said Siljanovska-Davkova.
