Free and fair elections are an essential foundation of a strong democracy, said U.S. Democratic Senator from Vermont, Peter Welch, on the presidential election in North Macedonia, Voice of America in Macedonian reports.
“I’m hopeful that citizens use their ballot to secure North Macedonia’s future through increased economic opportunity and strengthened ties with the U.S. and Europe,” Senator Welch wrote on the social network X.
Last month, Vermont Democratic Senator Peter Welch, along with New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, and Nebraska and North Carolina Republican Sens. Pete Ricketts and Thom Tillis, sponsored the latest resolution in the Senate, with which the United States supported North Macedonia’s accession to European Union (EU).
