The innovative formulation of Alkaloid AD for the medication with added value Omeprazole in liquid form, ready for use, the first of its kind in the world, has been declared “Patent of the year for 2023” by the State Office for Industrial Property, within on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day – April 26.
Alkaloid’s international patent application for Omeprazole in liquid form was filed on April 17, 2020, covering a number of regions and countries, including the countries of the European Union, the United States, Canada, China, the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and others. The patent application at the European Patent Office, whose powers cover patent activities in 39 countries in Europe, was approved on August 3 last year and validated in thirty countries, including Macedonia.
Alkaloid’s patent protects the liquid pharmaceutical form of Omeprazole, which is based on two separate solutions contained in a two-chamber packaging, which when opened automatically mixes the two solutions and thus obtains ready liquid omeprazole for use. This preparation is primarily intended for the treatment of reflux esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in young children who cannot swallow tablets, as well as in adult patients who have difficulty swallowing (patients with dysphagia) and the inability to swallow (patients with gastric feeding tubes placed and/or geriatric patients.
