The United States applauds the efforts of the leaders of Bulgaria and North Macedonia to de-escalate the rhetoric and for encouraging a dignified commemoration in Skopje on the birthday of Goce Delchev, the U.S. State Department said in a statement to the media.
When asked by MIA whether the U.S. considers the Bulgarian reaction to the attack in Ohrid on one person, as well as the declaration voted in the National Assembly of Bulgaria, to be an “exaggeration to unprecedented proportions” by official Sofia, official Washington D.C. replied that Sofia and Skopje “already are working on de-escalation of rhetoric” and welcomed the “peaceful celebration” of Goce Delchev’s birthday.
“The United States continues to support the full Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia,” reads the State Department’s response.
