The Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources is continuously monitoring the situation in the region and in Europe, as well as domestic hydrological indicators. Based on available data, the situation in Macedonia is stable, and there are currently no indicators that the low water levels in Europe pose a risk to the reliability of the domestic production of electricity, the Macedonian Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources said in a press release Wednesday.
The Ministry, along with AD ESM, AD MEPSO and other competent institutions, regularly monitors hydrological parameters, available reserves and forecasts, in order to take all necessary measures in a timely manner if conditions change.
The situation with the reservoirs is currently stable and allows for reliable management of the domestic hydro potential. The total hydro potential is about 70 percent. This allows for meeting current needs within the planned production
The indicators for domestic production are encouraging. According to data from the State Statistics Office (SSO, in May 2026, 462,653 MWh of electricity were produced in Macedonia, covering 96.5 percent of domestic consumption, which represents a significantly higher share of domestic production in meeting the country’s needs. At the same time, data from AD ESM show a significant increase in production from hydroelectric power plants – by 76 percent compared to the same period last year, as well as a growth of about 10 percent in wind power plants.
