Humanism is helping others and peoples, and the work of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius and Saints Clement and Nahum still helps many peoples today, said the head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia His Holiness Stefan, who was presented with the Great Charter of Humanism Sunday in Ohrid on the 40th anniversary of his tonsure.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Archbishop Stefan reminded those present at the ceremony in the House of MANU that his tonsure took place in 1986, on the feast of Saint Nahum, so that after 40 years the recognition would be presented to him again on a feast dedicated to saints and enlighteners.
“Nothing in life happens to anyone by chance. To become a monk on St. Naum, and to receive recognition on St. Clement and on the feast of the Holy Seven, as we call the Holy Brothers Methodius and Cyril, Clement, Naum, Sava, Gorazd and Angelarius, are individuals who are direct founders, not only in our country, but also in many other nations, of humanity, and not of manslaughter,” said HH Stefan.
On this occasion, he highlighted the work of the saints, which he emphasized represents the very essence of humanism – helping others and peoples.
“Their work, their activity is actually humanism, helping others, helping peoples,” said His Holiness Stefan.
Referring to the work of Saints Clement and Naum, Archbishop Stefan noted that although they worked on both sides of Lake Ohrid, they were always connected in thought and action.
