According to data from the Macedonian Forest Fire Information System, at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, the meteorological fire danger index (FWI – Fire Weather Index) is also rising as daily temperatures increase, Crisis Management Center (CMC) director Muhamet Ali said Sunday.

According to the CMC head, in the afternoon, in addition to the eastern part of the country, the central and southern parts of the Republic of North Macedonia will have a very high FWI, indicating an increased risk of fires breaking out and spreading rapidly in open areas, as well as very high-intensity forest fires. The rest of the country will have a high FWI, with the exception of higher mountainous areas, where the index will be low or very low.

“In view of the high temperatures and increased fire danger, I urge citizens to be particularly vigilant and responsible, especially when spending time outdoors. A moment of carelessness can start a fire that, in these weather conditions, can spread rapidly and affect a much larger area,” Ali said.

The CMC head notes that the Crisis Management Center continues to monitor the situation closely through Macedonian Forest Fire Information System, while ensuring timely information-sharing and coordination among the relevant institutions.
