The water in Gostivar is safe to drink as of today, Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) head StojancheAngelov said at a press conference Friday. Previously, the Main Crisis Management Headquarters held a session on the latest information related to drinking water from the Gostivar water supply.
The latest results confirm that the water is microbiologically and bacteriologically correct. This means that the conditions for the water to be reused are met for drinking, the director of the Food and Veterinary Agency said this afternoon.
Citizens are advised to let the drinking water drain well from the taps before using it.
The three laboratories took samples every 12 hours.
The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) issued the ban on drinking and food preparation on July 17, after fecal contamination and exceeded chlorine levels were determined in the system. About 5,000 residents of Gostivar reported health problems due to the contaminated water.
As part of the investigation into the incident, a 30-day detention order was issued for three former managers of the Public Enterprise Water Supply, ArtanAsani, Leon Uredini and VadedinDervishi. They are suspected of having, through certain actions, enabled the mixing of polluted water with the city’s water.
