A Macedonian national is suspected that between February and August 14, together with three suspects against whom a procedure is being conducted in Greece, organized the purchase, possession and transportation of narcotic drugs – marijuana, in a total net mass of 324 kilograms and 474 grams.

A prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for ProsecutingOrganized Crime and Corruption (PPO OCC), issued an order to conduct an investigative procedure against one person, as part of the large international operation dubbed “Vardaris” led by the Greek police.

At the end of February 2026, the suspect purchased a freight motor vehicle, and at the beginning of March a trailer, after which he immediately organized the alleged transport of recycled pressed paper from Macedonia to Turkey, via Bulgaria.

On March 8, 2026, the suspect left Macedonian territory with the truck and trailer in the direction of Bulgaria. However, instead of continuing to Turkey, he headed to Greece, where he left the vehicle and trailer in a rented closed lot in Thessaloniki.

There, he met with two of the suspects against whom proceedings are underway in Greece, one of whom is inaccessible to law enforcement agencies, and arranged the further transport of the drugs, which they wanted to hide in the cargo of recycled paper.

After purchasing the narcotic drugs, two of the suspects, together with currently unknown persons, placed the marijuana in previously made openings in the bales of recycled paper in the period from August 11 to 14, 2026.

On August 14, as part of the “Vardaris” operation, police officers in Greece arrested two of the suspects and conducted an inspection and search of the rented lot.

The court has ordered a 30-day detention for the suspect.
