In response to a reporter’s question over Gostivar’s usafe water epidemic, Macedonian Health Minister Sasho Klekovski says that the Ministry plans to release the epidemiological report on August 20, emphasizing that the focus of this epidemic is to come out transparently and clearly with lessons learned.

“First, I want to clear up some misinformation that is spreading. When I announced, I said that we would release information on August 20, which is the epidemiological report for Gostivar. It will state which institutions did what and what was discovered. The results of the water testing themselves are the property of the Gostivar-based PE Water Supply and the City of Gostivar. What the Ministry will release are the results that were relevant to the epidemic, and that is from January 1, 2026 until the peak of the epidemic. Since these are daily water controls, I do not see anything controversial in publishing them by both the Public Enterprise and the Center for Public Health,” Klekovski said.

The minister adds that the results are available at public health centers and will be soon released. Regarding the misinformation that has emerged that the water in Skopje is allegedly contaminated with Escherichia coli, Klekovski said that “if that were true, the director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic would not be talking about West Nile fever now, but would be demanding that we set up containers to accommodate everyone who comes for examination.”
