MoI: Iva Mihailova had both her passports confiscated and did not leave Macedonia legally

Twenty-three-year-old Iva Mihailova from Kochani, who is subject to an active court-ordered travel ban, has no record of exiting Macedonian territory, the Ministry of Interior announced after conducting checks in the border control system.

The Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) reported that Mihailova, whose departure from Macedonia was previously reported on Monday, also entered Bulgaria illegally.

“Checks were conducted via the Joint Contact Center with the Republic of Bulgaria, including by the Bulgarian border police, who confirmed that there is no record of the individual legally entering the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria,” the Ministry said Monday afternoon.

According to border records, the Ministry reported that Mihailova last entered Bulgaria in September 2025, while her exit from Bulgaria, and subsequent entry into Macedonia, was recorded in October 2025.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) notes that, acting on a proposal by the public prosecutor, the accused had two travel documents (Macedonian and Bulgarian) confiscated as early as October 9, 2025; she was also prohibited from crossing the state border using an ID card, banned from leaving Kochani, and required to report to an official.

“The competent public prosecutor took all steps within their authority to ensure the individual’s presence, and the risk of flight was one of the key grounds for the prosecution repeatedly issuing a negative opinion regarding requests for the return of her travel document,” the Prosecutor’s Office informed.

Iva Mihailova, who also holds Bulgarian citizenship, is facing charges in Macedonia in connection with a fatal traffic accident. Bulgarian media have reported that she has left Macedonia and is currently in Bulgaria.
