During a session on Tuesday of the Committee on Transport, Digital Transformation, Environment, and Spatial Planning, where amendments to the Draft Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on Environment were discussed, Macedonia’s Deputy Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Ane Lashkoska clearly stated that ‘the draft law stipulates a requirement for new industrial facilities: to obtain an A-integrated permit, they must be located more than five kilometers away from populated areas.’
Lashkoska noted that there are industrial facilities in Macedonia operating since the era of the former Yugoslavia and that they should be permitted to modernize and upgrade their production processes.
“If anyone decides to launch a new industrial operation, the law we are proposing still stipulates that, in order to be granted an ‘A’ integrated permit, the facility must be located at a distance of more than 5 km. On the other hand, last year, or rather, this parliamentary assembly, adopted a new Law on Industrial Gas Emissions, which mandates that industrial facilities modernize their production methods using the most advanced technologies currently available,” said Deputy Minister Lashkoska.
