Committee begins debate on second revision of 2026 state budget

Parliament’s Finances and Budget Committee kicked off its session Thursday focused on more than 120 amendments as part of the second revision of the 2026 state budget.  Over 120 amendments have been submitted by authorized proposers concerning this draft budget—which represents the second budget revision for the year.

Under this new budget revision, total revenues are projected at MKD 374.2 billion, a decrease of nearly MKD 5.3 billion compared to previous forecasts. The bulk of this adjustment concerns excise duties, which have been revised downward from 34.1 billion to MKD 30.4 billion. Meanwhile, the deficit remains at MKD 46.3 billion, or 4.1 percent of GDP.

As noted by Macedonian Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, while outlining the key parameters, a moderate adjustment has been made to tax revenues, reducing them from 213.3 billion to MKD 209.8 billion, a decrease of 1.6 percent.

“The bulk of the adjustment concerns excise duties, which are being revised from MKD 34.1 billion to MKD 30.4 billion. This is due to the reduction of excise duties on gasoline and diesel, a measure through which we are directly mitigating the impact of rising petroleum product prices on citizens and companies. This translates to lower budget revenue, but at the same time, it provides direct support to citizens and the economy,” said FinMIn Dimitrieska-Kochoska.
