Speaking of the historical sacrifice made for freedom, the responsibility toward the state, and the pledge of the generations that fought for the Macedonian future, Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski addressed the formal academy titled “Standing Firm on Our Own Land!”, an event organized to mark Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle – October 23.
“On a day like this, one feels the need to choose one’s words with great care, for we speak of people who backed their words with direct action, often at the cost of their own lives. We speak of people who accepted the loss of everything they possessed, convinced that their children deserved something greater, more noble, and better: a free homeland,” said Mickoski.
Reflecting on the historical significance of the revolutionary movement, Mickoski noted that it was in Thessaloniki, more than a century ago, that an organized revolutionary movement began, one that would leave a profound mark on Macedonian history.
The PM stressed that the resolve of these revolutionaries gave rise to subsequent generations who carried the Macedonian cause forward through persecution, imprisonment, uprisings, and wars.
“The homeland was forged through cries of anguish and suffering, not through applause or freedoms handed down as gifts. That long struggle brought pain, disappointment, and deep divisions. Yet, the will endured: the will to one day have a home of our own, a state of our own, and the right to decide our own future,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
