Railways Transport records total loss of EUR 109.1 million

An audit of the Macedonian Railways Transport for 2024 has revealed a loss of MKD 331.8 million for the year. When combined with accumulated losses from previous years, the total reaches MKD 6.75 billion (EUR 109.115 million), the State Audit Office (SAO) said Tuesday.

The audit encompassed both the financial statements and a compliance review of the Macedonian Railways Transport for 2024.

The Railways Transport company has consistently reported operating losses. For 2024, the loss amounted to MKD 331,796,000, a decrease of MKD 427,567,000 compared to the previous year (2023). However, when added to the accumulated losses from prior years (MKD 6,442,424,000), the total reaches MKD 6,754,219,000, or EUR 109,115,000. Continuous operating losses have a negative impact on the company’s current and future operations and its development, and they jeopardize the efficient, safe, and timely conduct of railway traffic.
