The success we are achieving in the development of air transport is the result of the smart subsidy policy we created in 2024 and began implementing in 20205, which has already delivered results. We are breaking records every month. The two airports recorded 21 percent growth in July and 31 percent in August compared with the same months last year, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said Thursday.
“When this government was elected, the total combined traffic volume at the two airports was around 2.4 million. I had anticipated reaching about 3.2 to 3.3 million passengers by the end of this VMRO-DPMNE government’s first term; however, we hit the 3-million mark within just one year, and this year it is literally a matter of a mere ten thousand passengers or so whether we reach 4 million. So, a country with a population of 1.8 million sees 4 million passengers passing through its two airports. Furthermore, we fully supply Pristina Airport with jet fuel and meet a significant portion of Nish Airport’s fuel needs. Skopje Airport also hosts the third-largest base for Wizz Air, currently the largest European airline in the industry after Turkish Airlines, and all the aircraft they overnight at Skopje Airport are the latest Airbus A321Neo models, which have the lowest emissions,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski.
Regarding Ohrid Airport, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the massive growth in traffic, noting the possibility that Wizz Air might expand its base there by adding another aircraft.
