Albanian parties in Macedonian are unhappy and criticizing Wednesday’s Constitutional Court decision on the Safe City project, and both the ruling VLEN and the opposition DUI reacted on Thursday, drawing alleged parallels between this policy and that in the former Yugoslavia.

“The use of the Albanian language is a basic human right that is one of the fundamental values of the Constitution. State institutions have an obligation to ensure the fulfillment of the right of every citizen of the state to be informed in his native language, including about the obligations he has imposed on himself due to his behavior,” said VLEN, reacting to the fact that the Safe City system is currently sending SDM messages in Macedonian.

DUI also demanded the resignation of DarkoKostadinovski, president of the Constitutional Court, assessing his statements on this issue as scandalous and unacceptable. The party announced that the position that SDM messages within the Safe City system should only be sent in Macedonian, while they can also be sent in English, but not in Albanian, represents discrimination and a violation of the spirit of the Constitution.
