The village of Chanishte is safe, there is no danger to it and the three monasteries, the Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) head Stojanche Angelov said Wednesday.
“The fire is moving in the direction of the Mariovo village of Krushevica. The line is very long, but I am optimistic that at least this line will be extinguished today thanks to the four Pinzgauers of the Directorate, as well as the fire teams of the Directorate that are supporting the firefighters from Prilep. I believe we will extinguish it,” Angelov added.
There are three monasteries in the area, which are secured, and the fire is partially controlled by making cuts.
“There is no danger to these three monasteries that are located here. A police helicopter arrived early this morning, we have re-set up a water pool — a prefabricated pool from which the helicopter will fill with water, but it is difficult to use a helicopter in this place because in some places it ignites it with its fins. Although it throws water, the effect is the opposite, which is why we will no longer use the helicopter here,” Angelov said.
Air tractors will begin operating shortly after the helicopter takes off.
