Bad weather strands foreign hikers on Shar Mountain

The Crisis Management Center (CMC) received a report Sunday via the single emergency number 112 regarding two foreign nationals who were hiking toward Piribeg Peak and were caught in adverse weather conditions. The individuals took shelter in a mountain facility located on Macedonian territory, near the border with Kosovo.

After assessing accessibility to the site, it was determined that the only way to reach the location from the Macedonian side is on foot; due to the weather conditions, the journey to the facility takes over six hours one way. Helicopter access from the Macedonian side is not possible due to rain and fog. The most suitable solution was deemed to be retrieving the individuals by vehicle via the access road from the Kosovo side. At 4:50 p.m., the Crisis Management Center received information that the two foreign nationals had been found in good health and were being transported to a location in Shtrpce, Kosovo,” the CMC said in a press release Sunday.
