Construction work on Skopje’s Boris Trajkovski Boulevard is going faster than planned and could finish well before the end of the year, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski told a press conference on Saturday.

The EUR 2 million extension of the boulevard aims to ease traffic and improve safety for roughly 100,000 residents in the Municipality of Kisela Voda, including the Drachevo, Zelenikovo and Studenichani neighborhoods, adds Gjorgjievski.

For 30 years, city authorities did not find a way to provide access to a safe, functional route for the local citizens, Mayor Gjorgjievski said.

“Once this entire stretch is completed, two layers of asphalt will be installed immediately, followed by a third layer of asphalt that will cover the part of the roundabout in front of the entrance of Drachevo to Pintija, or rather two kilometers because one half was left in the past in a state without a finishing layer,” said Mayor Gjorgjievski.

The deadline for completing the work, as the mayor added, is by the New Year, but following the dynamics, if the contractor company continues to work as it has started, I think that we will reach the realization much earlier than the end of the calendar year.
