The Transport Community director Matej Zakonjshek assures that work is underway on a solution for the duration of stay of professional drivers in the Schengen zone, for which he says that regular meetings are held in Brussels, a process in which the Transport Community is the facilitator.
Zakonjshek presented Tuesday the key findings of the Annual Reports for 2025 of the International Community – Transport Community to the parliamentary Committee on European Affairs.
“As for professional carriers, I am very aware of this problem. As the Transport Community, we are facilitators between all the different parties responsible in order to find a solution that will address some of these issues. There are regular meetings in Brussels on this issue where we look at all aspects – what are the problems and what are the short-term and long-term solutions, in order to find a solution. It is important to understand how important this issue is for carriers and I think that everyone is looking in the same direction for this. The Macedonian Association of Professional Transporters is also very active on this issue, always bringing examples and possible solutions. We are here, rest assured that we are as active on this issue as we can be, and of course we have limited possibilities because it is a Schengen regulation. Of course, rest assured that we are working in this direction,” said Zakonjshek, answering a question from SDSM MP Mitko Trajchulevski about what’s being done to overcome the problem of professional transporters.
The Committee on European Affairs chairperson Antonio Miloshoski said that it’s in the interest of everyone in Europe to resolve the issue of transporters in the best possible way.
