Works have begun on the 10.5-kilometer second phase of the Skopje-Blace motorway, a four-year construction project that will connect the route with an existing 1.5-kilometer stretch near the Blace border crossing. The motorway will include 5 tunnels, 8 bridges, 11 underpasses, 4 galleries and 9 retaining walls. It will be built by the domestic construction company Granit Skopje.
The Public Enterprise for State Roads (PESR) director Koce Trajanovski, as the main project holder, pointed out that Wednesday the cornerstone of the most complex and difficult motorway is being laid, which at a short distance of 10.5 kilometers will have numerous tunnels, viaducts, bridges, galleries on complex hilly and mountainous terrain, which will be a challenge for both designers and contractors.
“We are not just laying the cornerstone of a motorway, but we are laying the foundation for a faster, safer and more strongly connected Macedonia with its neighbors, the region and Europe. By starting the construction of the Skopje – Blace motorway, from the Stenkovec interchange to the Blace border crossing, with a length of approximately 10.5 kilometers, we are taking a significant step towards completing this strategic regional connection. By choosing the Granit company as the contractor, specific conditions have been created for laying this cornerstone. This investment is particularly significant because it connects us with the port of Durres, with Albania, Montenegro and Serbia via Kosovo,” said Trajanovski.
