Macedonian President GordanaSiljanovska-Davkova believes that the country is moving in the right direction and is more functional in many areas compared to two years ago. What needs to be worked on, according to the head of state, is the fight against corruption and crime and partisanship.

“I think we are moving in the right direction. It is certainly more functional than it was in many areas because, if you move forward with the growth plan, the package of laws on the judiciary has been adopted, it just needs to be implemented. There are some problems. Changes are coming, but time needs to pass. You can’t do that with a stroke of the pen with one law,” said Siljanovska-Davkova in her assessment of whether the country is moving in the right direction in tonight’s interview with Channel 5 television.

The head of statenoted that corruption, crime and partisanship remain the country’s biggest problems.

“Our biggest pain was and remains corruption and crime. That is a fact. Partisanship and politicization are still strong. Where there is partisanship and politicization, corruption and crime thrive easily. We need strong institutions and weak individuals because problems need to be solved institutionally. I am simply shocked by some of the findings. Just see what happened in some institutions, now what is happening with the SOZR, or with some ministries. Imagine not going to work, but getting paid. It takes time for that,” said President Siljanovska-Davkova.
