The visit of Indian President Droupadi Murmu is an important step in expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation, Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova said in a social media post Tuesday after meeting with her Indian counterpart at the Villa Vodno presidential residence.

“It was with great honor that I welcomed Droupadi Murmu, the first President of the Republic of India, who is on an official visit to the Macedonian state. We discussed Macedonian-Indian relations, with an emphasis on opportunities for cooperation in the economy, education, science, culture, tourism, healthcare and digital transformation. The common human heritage of Saint Mother Teresa, as well as the experience of the Non-Aligned Movement, are solid foundations for a new era in Macedonian-Indian relations,” said President Siljanovska-Davkova.

According to the Macedonian head of state, the country’s geostrategic position, infrastructure corridors and easy access to the European market may be of particular interest to Indian investors.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on global developments, pointing to the need to respect international law and peacefully resolve disputes.

Droupadi Murmu assessed that her first visit to the country was a historic moment and expressed her willingness for a new dynamic in the comprehensive partnership between the two peoples.

According to the two presidents, political dialogue and inter-institutional cooperation are prerequisites for the deepening of overall relations.
