The strength of a state is reflected in the strength of its institutions. When institutions function effectively, citizens feel a sense of security, trust and order. That is why the role of the Macedonian police today is extremely significant, especially in times of complex security challenges and new threats that know no borders, Macedonian Interior Minister PancheToshkovski said at the Macedonian Police Day celebration – May 7, held at the premises of the Ministry of Interior.

The minister pointed out that last year ended with a reduction in total crime by 6 percent.

“Sixteen organized crime gangs involving 205 people were suppressed. In the fight against corruption, several significant procedures were implemented, including high-profile cases, and 4 criminal gangs were suppressed. It is particularly significant that the total crime rate has decreased and is at its lowest level in the last 20 years. The efficiency is 67.2 percent, which is the highest level in the last 20 years. These results have a much deeper meaning than the statistics themselves. They are a message that the law must apply equally to everyone, that the state will not give in to crime, that institutions must once again be stronger than those who think they are above the law,”Toshkovskiunderlined.
