The fire raging in Mariovo has also affected the railway line to Bitola, which is why safety measures have been taken to protect passengers and trains, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said Wednesday.
Responding to a reporter’s question, Nikoloski indicated that teams from the Railways Transport and Railways Infrastructure companies are participating in dealing with the fire.
“Unfortunately, the fire also affected the railway line. Let me thank the teams from Railways Transport and Infrastructure, who are participating in extinguishing the fires. For safety reasons, it is true that we decided to protect the lives of citizens and, of course, to protect the trains, and that optimization was made for that reason,” the Deputy PM said.
Nikoloski adds that once the fire is completely extinguished, work will begin on replacing the damaged railroad ties, which will allow for faster travel to Bitola.
