The policies of the VMRO-DPMNE-led Government are yielding results. The economy is growing, public debt is decreasing and is being put within a sustainable framework, and inflation has been significantly reduced, thus creating conditions for greater economic security and a higher standard of living for citizens, VMRO-DPMNE said in a press release Sunday.

“The figures clearly show that in December 2017, the public debt amounted to 4.787 billion euros, or 47.7% of GDP, which according to the IMF amounted to 11.34 billion dollars. By the end of 2023, after six years of SDS rule, the public debt had reached 8.477 billion euros, or 57.8% of GDP, and according to the IMF, then the GDP amounted to 15.86 billion dollars,” the ruling party pointed out.

VMRO-DPMNE notes that this is an increase of 3.69 billion euros in public debt in six years, while in the same period, GDP grew by 4.52 billion dollars or about 3.9 billion euros, which according to VMRO-DPMNE shows that the growth in borrowing was extremely high in relation to economic growth.

“At the end of 2024, public debt amounted to 9.619 billion euros, or 61.4% of GDP, while according to the IMF, gross domestic product amounted to 16.95 billion dollars, and as of June 30, 2026, public debt amounted to 58.8% of GDP, which means that the debt has dropped,” reads the press release.

The ruling party adds that according to IMF projections, Macedonian GDP in 2026 should reach 21.61 billion dollars, which is a significant increase compared to 16.95 billion dollars in 2024, while public debt would amount to 11 billion euros.

VMRO-DPMNE points out that another important indicator of the economic situation is inflation, which in July 2026 in Macedonia amounted to 2.3% annually, compared to the high 16% in July 2022 during the SDSM-led Government.

Compared to the countries in the region, in July 2026 Macedonia had lower inflation than Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Romania and Montenegro, Albania, Turkey, reads the press release.
