An attempt to illegally import two shipments of unmarked eggs from Serbia, totaling 40.41 tons, was prevented by the inspection services and the Food Fraud Monitoring Department at the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA), in coordinated cooperation with the Customs Administration, last week.

Based on operational information and months of professional monitoring of the activities of domestic egg importers and exporters, an action was carried out at the Tabanovce border crossing, in which a detailed inspection revealed over 572,000 unmarked fresh eggs, hidden behind the first pallets of properly declared goods.

270,000 and 302,400 unmarked eggs were found in one shipment, and in the other, 302,400 unmarked eggs.

According to the FVA findings, these products were to be additionally marked and falsely marketed as Macedonian, which directly threatens the reputation and competitiveness of domestic production.

The total quantity of 40 tons and 410 kilograms of eggs was declared unsafe and was harmlessly destroyed at the Drisla landfill.
