Government declares 30-day state of emergency in Gostivar

The Macedonian Government at its 195th session Tuesday, upon the proposal of a Steering Committee composed of Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski, Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski, Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski, Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski and Director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate Stojanche Angelov, as well as the external members – Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Muamet Hodzha, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Borche Serafimovski, the SOZR head Ivica Tomovski, Public Health Institute director Marija Andonovska, FVA director Oliver Milanov, Environmental Inspectorate director Ivana Ginovska and ZELS head and Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski, adopted a decision to declare a state of emergency in the Municipality of Gostivar within 30 days.

“Given that the local government cannot cope with the situation in the Municipality of Gostivar, the Government has made this decision to declare a state of crisis in order to coordinate the institutions more quickly, as well as to put the water supply system into operation and provide drinking water as soon as possible.

The health of Gostivar residents remains the focus of the Government and we are committed to fully resolving this problem.

Additionally, we expect the Public Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a detailed investigation and clarify the case, there must be responsibility for everyone who put the health and lives of Gostivar residents at risk,” reads the press release.
