The Government rejected SDSM leader Venko Filipche’s suggestion to schedule a referendum in which citizens would declare whether they are in favor of constitutional changes to include Bulgarians, in order to continue Macedonia’s EU accession.
“Let’s not waste the citizens’ time and money. We are for the EU and that is our strategic orientation, which we are doing in practice. After all, the abolition of the assessment mission by the EU Council, the opening of funds from the Reform Agenda for Macedonia is a clear indicator of the European orientation of this Government. And what it looks like when SDSM advocates for a referendum without guarantees for the European future, citizens could see through a clear example from the last referendum organized in 2019,” the Government said in a press release.
SDSM continues to be the soft tissue of Macedonian identity, the release adds.
