The Government will reduce the VAT rate for diesel from 18 to 10 percent at today’s session, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said during his visit to Veles on Sunday.

“Measures are already in place – reduced excise tax for diesel and unleaded fuels. The Government will hold an online session later today and adopt another measure – lowering the VAT rate for diesel from 18 to 10 percent. This will result in lower prices of diesel instead of a dramatic increase. Of course, this will have implications on the budget, but the Government’s priority is to protect the citizens’ interest,” PM Mickoski told reporters.

The PM adds that the country has the lowest price of fuels in the region.

“It is not easy, but we will fight. There are global challenges, several wars, and the biggest energy crisis mankind has ever seen, but we are tough and we will fight. The price of fuels is the lowest compared to the region. MKD 100 per liter is cheaper than the one in neighboring countries, where it reaches MKD 150, or even MKD 180 in the broader area. Protection of the citizens’ standard is our priority,” said PM Mickoski.
