Former director of a Strumica-based public enterprise Zoran Georgiev is suspected of illegally paying out money for years and damaging the company’s budget by over MKD 1 million.
According to police information, between 2022 and 2023 the suspect made decisions contrary to regulations on as many as 47 occasions and provided financial benefits for himself and other employees.
According to the investigation, Georgiev approved payments for unused vacation days, citing a collective agreement, although such payments were not in line with legal rules.
Approximately MKD 593,000 he and 24 other employees were paid in that manner in 2022, while in 2023 an additional MKD 502,000 ended up with 21 persons.
The total damage to the public enterprise reached more than MKD 1.09 million.
Georgiev is known for being the head of all of Zaev’s election campaigns and for being the husband of the Strumica Court Judge Loreta Georgieva, who during Zoran Zaev ‘s government became a member of the Judicial Council, the institution tasked with controlling the work and efficiency of Macedonian judges.
Loreta Georgieva, a controversial figure in the Macedonian judiciary. It was said that her career and advancement were linked to political influence and party support from Zaev. She was also part of internal conflicts in the Judicial Council. At the end of last year, she also received criminal charges for failing to declare she owned an apartment in Skopje and was reimbursed for travel expenses.
