Krasta landfill blockade lifted; Waste disposal to resume

Kumanovo Mayor MaksimDimitrievskisaid Monday that the blockade had been lifted and an agreement reached with local residents, allowing waste disposal at the Krastalandfill to resume.

Residents of the Kumanovo village of Pchinja lifted the blockade of theKrastalandfill on Monday following an agreement with the Municipality of Kumanovo and the Public Enterprise Cleanliness and Greenery. Thanks to the intervention of heavy machinery from various enterprises and socially responsible companies, as well as support from other municipalities, the fire at the landfill was extinguished and the waste covered with soil.

Remediation efforts will continue in the coming period to prevent future fires and air pollution. Mayor Dimitrievski confirmed the end of the blockade and the agreement with residents, noting that waste disposal at the Krasta landfill is now resuming.

PE Cleanliness and Greenery director SashoTomikjconfirmed that waste disposal at the Krasta landfill resumed Monday morning. He noted that large quantities of accumulated refuse had built up in Kumanovo, particularly in the wider urban area, due to the suspension of disposal operations over the past few days.

“We have large quantities of waste, especially in the wider urban area. We will be working through the night to remove it. We will target priority zones, and I hope the situation will return to normal soon. We ask for your understanding,” said Tomikj.
