The Environment Department in the Municipality of Resen says that apart from the fact that Lake Prespa is filling up, the trend of emptying the lake is gone, and on average with two more such hydrological years, the lake level will return to the level of 2000.
The water level of the lake has increased by almost a meter and a half in just six months.
The good news, say ecologists, is that soil pollution, which was one of the reasons for the poor condition of the lake, is also dropping, as more and more fruit growers are turning to organic production and the use of organic preparations and fertilizers.
Over the past few years, the situation with Lake Prespa has been extremely alarming. The water basin was decreasing uncontrollably, and entire banks remained dry on the surface.
This spring, the lake is “breathing” a little easier due to the rains, but the overall water volume is about 60% lower than it was six decades ago, which requires constant vigilance and long-term solutions.
