Macedonian music star Daniel Kajmakoski (43) was kidnapped Saturday night after performing at the Lafayette cabaret in Belgrade, Serbia.

As he later confirmed in a statement to the media, Kajmakoski was intercepted near Belgrade’s Beton Hala and forced into his car at gunpoint by two unknown men.

The perpetrators tied up the musician and began driving him, demanding a ransom of EUR 20,000. According to Kajmakoski, the kidnappers spoke in English and Turkish, and threatened him with the safety of his family.

Belgrade police tried to stop the vehicle during a routine check in the evening, but the driver fled. The police then started to pursue them, and the car eventually crashed into a roadside embankment on the motorway near Ruma.

The kidnappers abandoned the vehicle and managed to escape into the surrounding forest. Kajmakoski was found tied up in the vehicle and in a state of shock, but with no sustained injuries.
