Macedonian woman murdered in Italy – suspect is ex-Macedonian consul’s brother

A terrible family tragedy shook the Italian city of Piacenza, after a 55-year-old woman, a Macedonian national, identified as Milena Vitanova was found dead in an apartment on the outskirts of the city, with multiple stab wounds.

According to Italian media, her husband Hako Vitanov confessed by phone that he had murdered his wife, after which he fled the scene. Hako Vitanov, also originally from Tetovo and brother of the former Macedonian consul in Italy, Stojan Vitanov.

Italy’s national police (carabinieri), firefighters and emergency medical teams immediately arrived at the address, but the door to the apartment was locked. The firefighters had to enter through a balcony, where they were greeted by a gruesome sight – the woman’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

According to the initial investigation, the victim had multiple stab wounds inflicted with a sharp object, as well as severe head injuries. A knife was found nearby, suspected to be the weapon used in the brutal murder. The suspect was found a few hours later – at the grave of their son Metodij, who died several years ago. The police immediately arrested the suspect, and the investigation continues to determine the motives and exact circumstances that led to this tragedy.
