Mayor Gjorgjievski announces over 200 cameras at critical Skopje locations to prevent vandalism

More than 200 cameras are planned for installation at critical locations throughout Skopje, specifically in areas prone to the formation of illegal dump sites and in parks frequently targeted by vandalism, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said Tuesday.
He noted that the installation is currently awaiting final approval from the Personal Data Protection Agency.

“We are currently awaiting final approval from the Personal Data Protection Agency. We intend to install over 200 cameras at critical points across the City of Skopje. This will cover areas where illegal dump sites are created, as well as parks that are constantly being targeted,” said Gjorgjievski.

As an example, he pointed to the recently renovated Lotus fountain in the City Park and the damage caused to urban furniture by graffiti.

“We restored it after so many years; it looks beautiful and serves as one of the iconic landmarks of the City of Skopje. Since the renovation, the benches, which our public enterprise repeatedly repaints, have been defaced with graffiti three times already,” Gjorgjievski told reporters.

According to the capital’s mayor, in addition to taking measures, it is also necessary to work on raising awareness among citizens regarding the preservation of public space.
