Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Monday the Government will hold a meeting with all distributors, traders, and retailers, at which he will send a message that the crisis is ending and prices of basic food products need to go down.
“My message is clear – the crisis is almost over, citizens were tolerant, now it’s time for them to repay the citizens and immediately reduce product prices, especially basic food products,” Mickoski said in response to reporter’s question. If they do not do so, the PM said that the Government will use the mechanisms at its disposal to reduce product prices.
“I will not accept any excuses. If there is no reaction from the markets, distributors and producers in the coming days, then we as the Government will react, and in the longer term. We will publicly announce some of the markets tomorrow, if necessary, by name, and then we will leave it to them,” the PM added.
When asked by the media which products he expects the biggest price reduction, Mickoski said that he could not say which products he expects to become the most expensive, reiterating that basic food products must undergo a correction in their prices.
