Mickoski: This generation’s task is to take a step and reclaim some of what the previous generation sold off

The previous government itself accepted the condition to amend the Constitution; now, we are fighting for better positions regarding European integration, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday.

Relations with European partners must be viewed rationally and without emotion, and the conditions Macedonia faces today were accepted by the previous government, adds Mickoski.

“Let’s be realistic, setting aside feelings and emotions, this is a serious world; one must put emotions aside and heed reason. I cannot agree when people speak of ‘illogical demands,’ because a previous Macedonian government accepted those so-called illogical demands and signed the agreement. And the very government that accepted them now goes public spreading lies and fabrications, accusing the current government—claiming, for instance, that we would revert to the old name or surname, or do who knows what else.” “That very same political party not only plundered Macedonia and humiliated it, but also completely cemented the very process we are now struggling with all our might to somehow unblock,” said Mickoski during an interview.

We must fight, stressed the Prime Minister.

“We need to rectify what went wrong, step by step. This generation’s task is to take a step or two forward by reclaiming some of what the previous generation forgot, or rather, sold off. Those who come after us must fight for the next two steps. This is a process that will take time. Neither we nor the citizens should blame the people in Brussels. They are making an effort; they want to help and know an injustice has been done to us; they sympathize with us, and so on, but it all comes down to the statement: You accepted it yourselves; a government of yours signed off on it,” PM Mickoski underscored.
