Justice is the backbone of a legal state, the guardian of freedom, the dignity of every person and the strongest proof of the institutions being mature. Without independent judiciary, professional prosecution and responsible institutions, there is no legal security, no equality and no real trust, Macedonian Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari said on European Day of Justice (October 25).
He underscored his commitment, as Minister of Justice, to building a judicial system where the law prevails over any other interest, where the administration of justice is independent of anyone’s power, and where every citizen enjoys an equal right to protection and fair treatment.
According to Shasivari, the state requires a judiciary that renders decisions independently, impartially, and within a reasonable timeframe; a public prosecution service that operates professionally and without selectivity; and institutions that justify public trust through tangible results, integrity, and accountability.
The Minister noted that judicial reforms should not be evaluated solely by the number of laws enacted, but primarily by the changes that citizens can genuinely perceive, such as more efficient proceedings, higher-quality judicial decisions, greater legal certainty, and the equal application of the law for all.
