Eleven weeks after the Drug Enforcement Task Force was established, its results were deemed insufficient. Following a proposal by Public Security Bureau head Aleksandar Janev and with the approval of Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, the regional unit within the Criminal Police Department of the Kumanovo Sector for Internal Affairs responsible for combating drug trafficking has been disbanded.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the decision was announced Thursday during a working visit by Public Security Bureau head Aleksandar Janev to the Kumanovo Sector for Internal Affairs. The visit focused on the security situation and the fight against the illegal trafficking and distribution of drugs and psychotropic substances in Kumanovo, Kratovo and Kriva Palanka.
All members of the unit have been reassigned to other duties, while new police officers have been appointed to the unit.
“The fight against crime cannot be reduced to work on paper. It requires concrete action, the identification of perpetrators, drug seizures and the dismantling of criminal networks. When results are absent, responsibility follows, without excuses and without privileges,” Janev said.
